Through his longstanding partnership with Weller
Tools, Bob has significantly shaped and innovated
the training program at the IPC Centers in the USA.
Together with Weller, he is dedicated to promoting
the highest standards and the
latest technologies in soldering.

Bob, what was the original idea
founding the
IPC Training Center?
“In the mid 90’s, North Carolina was booming
with Telecom companies expanding their
manufacturing to keep up with demand for
cellular and internet growth. These companies
couldn’t find qualified technicians to keep up
with the demand so if I could provide training
and certification so these companies could

hire employees with no experience and turn
them over to me to train them, that would be an
extremely high value to my customers. It would
also position Circuit Technology as an expert in
electronics because I have IPC Master Trainers
on staff to help them with process issues. And of
course, any process problem that my customer
has might be an opportunity for the equipment
I represent. So it seemed like a perfect fit where
I can benefit my customers, my manufacturers
and myself. Fortunately, it has worked out that
way on all three fronts. Our customers view my
team as an extension of their team and a
valuable asset when faced with the many
challenges they face.”
Which kind of training do you
offer today?
“We offer many training courses that address
the challenges of PCB assembly including all
IPC assembly spec’s: IPC-600, 610, 620 J
standard 001, 7711/7721 and the Space
Addendums. In addition we offer custom
curriculum such as SMT Boot Camp, BGA rework,
Counterfeit component, ESD, Basic soldering,
Basic troubleshooting, X ray and Component
ID. Depending on the curriculum, we address
our training to Engineers, Production Managers,
Technicians and operators.”
