Weller: What are some of the biggest challenges the Electronics Foundation faces
in bringing soldering education to more
schools and communities?
The key challenges include: Access to funding and equipment, shortage of trained
instructors, lack of curriculum integration
(sometimes), lack of awareness as many
students (and their parents) aren’t aware
that electronics manufacturing is a highpaying, high-tech career path, and program
sustainability predominantly due to technological advancements and maintaining the
labs.
The Electronics Foundation is the nonprofit foundation of the
Global Electronics Association, formerly known as the IPC Foundation. It is dedicated to advancing education, innovation, and
workforce development across the global electronics industry –
from schools and technical training centers to universities.
Through programs, partnerships, and scholarships, the foundation
promotes access to STEM education and helps build a futureready, globally connected sector. Headquartered in Bannockburn,
Illinois, USA, it operates at the heart of the international
